Alaska Pioneer Home - Sitka Alaska Sightseeing
Attraction
Set up as a sanctuary for the pioneers of the state, the Alaska Pioneers'
Home was built in 1934 and now houses Sitka's seniors. |
Castle Hill (Baranof Castle Site) - Sitka Alaska
Sightseeing Attraction
This was the stronghold of the Kiksadi clan before a Russian
building was built. This building was known as Baranof's Castle built
in 1837. It would burn down twice before they did not rebuild it anymore.
On October 18, 1867 the transfer of Alaska to the United States took
place there, due to the fact that it was Alaska capital at the time.
Every year on October 18th the transfer is celebrated during a very
large celebration. |
Isabel Miller Museum - Sitka Alaska Sightseeing

This museum is located in the Centennial Building and packed with
interesting things from Sitka history. The Collection is mostly made
up of everyday items from mining, logging, and Russian artifacts.

Celebrating Sitka's Russian heritage by performing lively, authentic
and professionally choreographed folk dances from Russian and surrounding
regions. |
Russian Bishop's House - Sitka Alaska Sightseeing
Attraction
Built in 1842 makes this building the oldest original Russian built
building in Sitka. Built by the Russian American Company for the residence
Bishop of the Orthodox Church. The building has been restored to what
it might have looked like in the 1850's when it was used as a school,
Bishop's house, and chapel. |
Saint Michaels Cathedral - Sitka Alaska Sightseeing
Attraction
Standing tall in the center of town this is a must see. It houses
am important collection of Russian Orthodox art and church treasures.
The cathedral was built 1844 - 48 but was totally destroyed by fire
in January 1966. Open when cruise ships are in town (Summertime Only).

St. Lazaria Island - Sitka Alaska Sightseeing Attraction
is a federal wildlife refuge located at the mouth of Sitka Sound.
Puffin and various sea birds cover the volcanic cliffs of this scenic
island. |

Sheldon Jackson Museum - Sitka Alaska

This museum houses one of Alaska's oldest native culture collections.
Dr. Sheldon Jackson started the collection when he was head of education
in the state of Alaska from 1895-1900. It appears to be a rather small
museum, but every little nick and cranny is filled. |

Sitka National Historical Park - Sitka Alaska Sightseeing
Attraction
Located right downtown Sitka Historical National Park is a must see.
As you walk through you will hear and see all different types of animals.
You will see tlingit carved totem poles within the wonderful walks

Whale Park - Sitka Alaska Sightseeing
Attraction
Built by the Alaska Pulp Corporation this park was dedicated in July
1995 short after the corporation shut down. Whale Park is a small
sheltered picnic area that is sprouting with boardwalk. Each of the
two board walks take you down to the water edge where you can view
the wildlife. Humpback whales come through in the spring and fall.
Viewing scopes are provided for they are feeding off shore. Located
about 4 miles south of downtown. |
